Top 10 most expensive destinations in Caribbean revealed

Virgin Gorda, the third largest of the British Virgin Islands, is the most expensive destination in the Caribbean based on lodging cost. That’s according to a new survey from CheapHotels.org. The survey compared the various Caribbean destinations for the period spanning January to April 2013. This timeframe represents the high season for travel to the Caribbean.

In Virgin Gorda, travelers had to spend US$321 per night for the most affordable room. Only resorts and hotels with a minimum of a 3-star rating were considered. Coming in second and third most expensive were Anguilla and St. Barts. These two locales, which are favorites of the rich and famous, averaged US$315 and US$295, respectively.

Tortola, the largest of the British Virgin Islands, also landed in the Top 10, ranking sixth most expensive. An average rate of US$217 for the least expensive room positioned it in the middle of the list. Coming in a bit more expensive to take the number five spot was St. John, in the neighboring U.S. Virgin Islands. There, visitors had to pay an average of US$224 for an overnight stay.

The following table shows the Caribbean’s 10 most expensive destinations. The rankings are based on the average rate for the cheapest available double room (minimum: 3-star hotel or resort). The time period spanning January–April 2013 served as the basis of comparison.
