Flying in the face of extremely difficult market conditions, MEFTEC 2010, the annual banking and financial technology event, today opened its doors, boasting an audience of around 700 delegates from 27 countries and more than 150 exhibitors.

MEFTEC is organised under the patronage of the Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain, H.E. Rasheed Mohammed Al Maraj and the 2010 show was officially inaugurated by Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, Executive Director – Banking Operations at CBB.

In spite of the challenges facing the financial technology sector globally, the show has been a sell-out for the fourth year in a row, confirming its status as the world’s leading dedicated financial technology event for emerging markets.

Paul Stott, Managing Director of organisers Media Generation Exhibitions said: “We are delighted with the outcome of this year’s event. To have maintained the size and quality of MEFTEC in such difficult times is remarkable and can only be attributed to the resilience of the region’s financial industry, the appeal of Bahrain as a destination and the sheer determination MEFTEC’s marketing and organising team.”

The conference at MEFTEC is always a major draw for CIOs in the region and this year’s conference is no exception. Under the theme of “Innovation in the midst of regulation”, the 2010 conference programme features cutting-edge presentations from an impressive array of speakers representing such organisations as Barwa Bank, Amman Stock Exchange, Gartner and Celent.

The event’s much-valued Hosted Delegate Programme® has been a particular success this year. Demand for places has been exceptionally high, resulting in the attendance of more than 500 financial institutions. On this subject, Event Director, Syed Faisal Abbas, commented: “We have achieved an unprecedented delegate audience this year, both in terms of numbers and in terms of the seniority of those attending.”

The exhibition runs until Wednesday 21st April and takes place in Hall 2 at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre.

The 2010 event has more sponsors and partners than ever: no less than 30 including Microsoft, IBM, ProgressSoft, Infosys, TCS BaNCS and Nucleus Software. Tamkeen is a strategic partner for MEFTEC 2010.
