Luxury Ship Stuck Off Cost of Greenland Freed After Days

Brief News Update
Written by Binayak Karki

A luxury cruise ship was stuck off the coast of Greenland. It was carrying 206 people. Authorities say it’s now free after several days.

The ship, called the Ocean Explorer, was successfully freed during high tide in Greenland. The Joint Arctic Command, a part of Denmark’s defense forces, made the announcement on social media on Thursday. Greenland is a semiautonomous territory of Denmark.

The vessel is 343 feet long and 60 feet wide. It’s operated by Aurora Expeditions, an Australian cruise company. On Monday, it was heading to a remote part of Greenland. However, it ran aground above the Arctic Circle near Alpefjord. This happened in the Northeast Greenland National Park, which is the world’s northernmost national park.

Previous efforts to free the stranded ship on Tuesday and Wednesday didn’t succeed.

The reason for the vessel running aground remained unclear. Fortunately, there were no reports of damage to the ship.
