Every country is urging their citizens in Libya to leave immediately. Dozens of Greek and other nationals have been evacuated from Libya following the escalating violence in the country.

According to the Greek Navy, 186 people have been evacuated by the frigate “Salamis” which reached off shore of Tripoli, Libya, on Thursday evening.

The ship sailed in the early hours of the morning for Greece where it is expected to dock on Saturday morning.

Greek authorities say that 77 evacuees are Greek nationals, 12 Cypriots, 78 Chinese, 10 British, 7 Belgian, 1 Russian and 1 Albanian.

International missions and member-states of the European Union and United Nations have been moving their staff out of the country.

Associated Press reports that as the Greek operation was underway heavy fighting erupted around Tripoli airport after a brief truce that was meant to enable firefighters to tackle a blaze at a nearby fuel depot.

The fighting has damaged the airport and left scores dead. Libya’s Al Nabaa television channel said violence today sent residents fleeing.
