TORONTO, Canada – The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) will be conducting an emergency exercise at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Saturday, May 28th. The exercise will run from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and will take place in several locations including the north end of the airfield, Terminal 3 and the Airfield Maintenance Facility on Convair Drive.
Throughout the exercise, passengers and people in the airport area can expect to see volunteers, emergency vehicles and personnel airside, as well as volunteers in Terminal 3 and other airport buildings. Theatrical makeup and smoke will be used.
The GTAA runs one full scale and one tabletop exercise per year to test protocols, procedures, communications and planning for emergency and/or security related incidents. Many agencies are involved in the planning and implementation of these exercises.
The scenario for the May 28th exercise involves an aircraft accident on airport property, and includes friends and family response in Terminal 3 and other surrounding buildings. Partnering agencies in this exercise include Peel Regional Police, Peel Regional Paramedic Services, KLM, Air France, and Delta Airlines, Transport Canada and NAV Canada. Over 400 members of the public have volunteered to participate as passengers and friends and family members for the exercise.
Please be advised that this is an exercise only and that only authorized personnel and volunteers will be admitted into the exercise area.
