Hotel Classification:

Uganda Tourism Board’s Hotel Classification exercise in now in its 6th week. So far the areas of Kampala, Entebbe, Mukono, Masaka, Mbarara, Kabale, Fort Portal, Gulu and Arua have been covered. This week, 6th-10th June, the Quality Assurance team, together with the entire team of Hotel Assessors will be classifying hotels in Mbale and Jinja.

Hotel Classification is the process of assessing an accommodation facility for grading purposes. Uganda is classifying hotels using the East African Community Hotel and Restaurant classification Criteria. The EAC Criteria rating system is denoted by stars where one (1) star denotes the lowest and five (5) star the highest grade. Save for Motels and Restaurants whose star rating range from one to three and three to five respectively, all the other categories are graded from one to five stars. There are over 3400 hospitality facilities in Uganda, and all these must be classified to conform to the EAC standard.

Kamageo on Inception Study:

Kamageo, the company representing Uganda tourism interests in the United Kingdom and Ireland, is on the ground to carry out an inception study. The firm is one of three contracted to promote tourism arrivals and investments from different markets to Uganda. Kamageo is responsible for the UK and Ireland markets. During their tour of Uganda, the Kamageo team led by Tim Henshall will see them travel around Uganda’s tourism attractions and facilities. After the study tour, they will hold a seminar with local tour operators to share their findings and get feedback to incorporate in the UK & Ireland tourism marketing strategy.
