Why it’s prime time to invest in Alps ski resorts

Luxurious ski resorts in the Alps have sparked a wider recovery in the property market for secluded, deluxe properties – opening up a lucrative opportunity for property investors.

News of the recovery was reported by Savills World Research and Alpine Homes which pointed out that resorts such as Courchevel 1850, Gstaad, St. Moritz and Verbier are at the top of Savills Ultra-Prime Ski Resorts Index thanks to their increased price per square metre.

A weak Euro compared to the strong Swiss Franc has attracted investment from international buyers in France, Italy and Austria.

Avner Motaev from company which specialises in the acquisition and development of real estate in Vienna, has explained:

“Currency changes mean buyers from different parts of the world will have differing fortunes – right now a British buyer would benefit from rates whereas a US buyer wouldn’t benefit as much.”

Avner Motaev suggests that investing in up and coming resorts such as Grimentz, La Tzoumaz and Villars would be a wise move as property value here is set to increase substantially.

Austria has also seen an increased interest thanks to its value for money and increasingly strong infrastructure at resorts.

Take for example, Zell am See, the resort has a planned lift linking it to neighboring Saalback, which will certainly increase interest for properties at the resort.

This means that investing in an Austrian resort sooner rather than later could result in a healthy return as interest in the resorts grow.

Avner Motaev commented: “Austria is a bright prospect for those looking beyond classic resorts – Austrian locations may not carry the same reputation at present, but as investment grows in them so will popularity and positive sentiment from key players.”
