Travel to the pilgrim town of Katra in Jammu and Kashmir got much easier on July 4 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation a 25.6-kilometer railway line, linking Katra with Udhampur.

Travel to the pilgrim town of Katra in Jammu and Kashmir got much easier on July 4 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation a 25.6-kilometer railway line, linking Katra with Udhampur.

The plush Katra Railway station, complete with a 100-bed accommodation and other facilities, was also opened for the millions of pilgrims who flock to the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi, doing the 13-km trek from Katra to the holy shrine. Chopper service is also available.

Jammu will be linked with Srinagar by rail once the track is completed.

Direct travel to Katra from Delhi is now possible. So far, one had to go through Jammu, then travel by road or chopper.
