A Taiwan-based airline wants to introduce a charter service to Tinian and Guam, among other destinations in the US.

TransAsia Airways Corp. has been reported by the Taipei Times to be considering the launch of this service in 2015.

According to the announcement made by TransAsia Airways Corp. before Christmas, it is planning a $480 million purchase of four A330-800 neo aircraft from Airbus SAS.

The purchase indicates the airline’s keen interest in joining the long-haul passenger service.

TransAsia Airways is a full service carrier headquartered in Taipei, in Taiwan.

Online sources show that TransAsia is a short-haul carrier, operating domestic services within Taiwan and short-haul international services between Taiwan and mainland China and Southeast Asia.

It is also known for its budget carrier V Air.

Taipei Times reported, “Targeting the nation’s outbound market to the U.S., TNA has filed an application with the U.S. government and it expects to launch a chartered flight service to Tinian — an island of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands — and Guam from the second half of next year.”

In view of its expansion plans, TransAsia Airways is planning to lease two A330-300 aircraft next year to cope with the route expansion to the U.S. and other destinations in Asia, the Taipei Times said.

The two additional planes will bring to 24 the number of planes in TNA’s fleet.

Further, the Taiwan newspaper said that the airline is taking delivery of the first of four A330-800neo aircraft in the fourth quarter of 2018 at the earliest.

It has the option of buying an additional four following this first purchase.

Variety reported two years ago that a Taiwan airline was looking into offering a charter flight from Taiwan to Tinian.
