SAN JOSE, California – “Those traveling to and from Silicon Valley and the greater Bay Area continue to choose SJC for convenience, on-time service and the numerous nonstop destinations offered,” said Director of Aviation for Mineta San Jose International Airport Kim Becker.

Passenger traffic grew at Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) in February and March 2015 with increases of 3 percent and 3.2 percent, respectively, compared to the same months in 2014. SJC served 656,971 passengers in February and 761,737 passengers in March, both departing and arriving. Previously published passenger numbers for January 2015 reflected a 2.9 percent increase (see release).

The increase in travelers is due to new and expanded nonstop service to several destinations. These include Los Angeles and Seattle on Delta Air Lines, Honolulu on Hawaiian Airlines, and Southwest Airlines with growth to a few of the markets it serves, particularly Chicago/Midway, Los Angeles, Orange County and Seattle.

The upward trend at SJC is expected to continue into 2015 because of expanded air service choices for Silicon Valley travelers, and continued growth in the local and global economy. Southwest Airlines, SJC’s largest carrier, inaugurated daily nonstop service to Dallas Love Field on April 8. Hainan Airlines will launch first-ever nonstop service between Silicon Valley and Beijing, China, on June 15. Hainan will operate five flights per week – Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday – on modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, marking the carrier’s entry into the Bay Area market through the convenient SJC gateway.
