The Roads of Arabia – the exhibition of archeological masterpieces of Saudi Arabia – will tour a number of European capitals and major US cities. Explaining the exhibition’s global tour, HRH president of SCTA Prince Sultan Bin Salman Bin Abdul Aziz stated that its first stop will be at the Louvre Museum in Paris next week, under the auspicious of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz and the French President Nicolas Sarkozy, affirming the historic standing of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia while introducing to the world the cultural dimension of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. HRH Prince Sultan said, “The antiquities of the Kingdom have a special importance for the complete understanding of episodes of human history in relation to the history of the Kingdom.”
HRH Prince Sultan indicated that it is for the first time the Kingdom is offering the exhibits of this size, magnitude, and diversity outside the Kingdom, where the selected exhibits are to reflect the active participation of people of this land over the centuries in the making of human history and its role in the global economy through the centuries and its impact on civilizations from the geographical location of the Arabian Peninsula. This will be a key theme for peaceful cultural and economic relations between the East and the West.
Dr. Ali Al Ghabban, vice president of SCTA for antiquities and museums, stated that the exhibition will showcase 350 relics showing the history of this land since the prehistoric times through the pre-Islamic era, including early and middle Arabic civilizations and kingdoms down to the early Islamic age and the middle Islamic age, as well as the late Islamic age, until the emergence of the Saudi state through its three periods until the reign of King Abdul Aziz. HRH added that the most ancient piece in the collection is a stone tool belonging to the north of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that dates back to about one million years. The collection includes distinct relics that many people may not expect to see in Saudi Arabia.
The Roads of Arabia will be hosted by the Louvre in Paris from July 14, 2010 to September 27, 2010 in Napoleon Hall. Several distinguished events will accompany the exhibition, including folklore art shows and a film on travelers who visit the Arabian Peninsula. Also, King Abdul Aziz Dara will hold an exhibition in the same period on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the eyes of French writers who had visited the Kingdom.
