Guam hosts South Korean pro-baseball team for pre-season training.

South Korea’s professional baseball team, the Lotte Giants, have arrived in Guam for their annual pre-season training from February 1 – 20, 2024.  The Giants have chosen Guam once again this year.

The Lotte Giants is one of South Korea’s ten professional baseball franchise teams in the KBO (Korea Baseball Organization) League, which is the highest level of baseball in South Korea.  They have twice won the Korea Series, which is the final championship series of the KBO League, and have been said to be one of the most popular teams in the League.  The Giants’ home stadium is Sajik Baseball Stadium located in Busan and owned by the Lotte Corporation, the same corporation that owns Lotte Hotels & Resorts.  The team will be staying at the Lotte Hotel Guam in Tumon.

Supported by the Guam Visitors Bureau, the Department of Parks & Recreation is providing the use of all four fields at the complex in exchange for CSR (Social Responsibility) activities with the community, which will be announced later.  “The use by the Korean baseball team Lotte Giants of our island facility in Harmon again this year is a testament of their satisfaction of the cooperation and support the Department of Parks and Recreation gives to our international sports teams. Our sports players benefit from the interaction of professionals like the Lotte Giants. We look forward to an exciting February with the Lotte Giants here” stated DPR Director Angel Sablan.

“We have welcomed the Lotte Giants to our island before and we are more than happy to welcome them back every year!” – Carl T.C. Gutierrez, GVB President & CEO

GVB is working to rebuild and encourage more sports teams to travel to Guam as a part of its mission to grow tourism and increase arrivals.
