As Spain’s third busiest airport by footfall, after Madrid and Barcelona, and the sole aviation hub for Majorca, the maintenance work has the potential to affect millions of passengers scheduled to depart from or arrive at the Balearic Island.

Jet2 Holidays has alerted vacationers to potential “extended wait times” and terminal adjustments due to ongoing maintenance activities at Majorca Airport (Palma).

The airline’s updated guidance on Sunday night hinted at the likelihood of lengthy immigration queues for travelers departing from or arriving at the popular Spanish island.

According to the latest travel information on the Jet2 website, the airline is collaborating with the airport authorities to minimize any disruption to travelers’ airport experience.

The statement mentioned, “Due to this ongoing work, you may experience slightly longer than usual wait times to clear immigration in both departures and arrivals, with our friendly Customer Helpers available to assist.”

Jet2 expressed gratitude in advance for travelers’ patience and understanding in the event of extended wait times, stressing that such delays are beyond their control.

In January, data from AirHelp indicated that a third of UK air passengers experienced delays or cancellations while flying in 2023.

The statistics from the passenger rights organization revealed that out of 131 million passengers last year, 34 percent encountered delays, with 3.8 million individuals facing flight cancellations.

London Gatwick was identified as the worst offender for disruptions, affecting 42 percent of passengers, closely followed by London Stansted with a 39 percent disruption rate.

Conversely, Durham Tees Valley Airport emerged as the most punctual, with only 19 percent of flights experiencing disruptions.
