The train connects the central part of Matsuyama City with Dogo Onsen hot spring resort.

Matsuyama’s Botchan train will be back on track starting March 20, operator Iyotetsu Group Co. announced.

The replica steam locomotive, a popular tourist attraction, has been out of service since November due to crew shortages.

The Botchan Ressha, a replica of a historic steam locomotive, operates as a tourist attraction in Matsuyama, Japan. These diesel-powered trains run alongside electric trams on certain city lines, offering visitors a unique experience.

The train connects the central part of Matsuyama City with Dogo Onsen hot spring resort.

Operations will resume on weekends and holidays, excluding year-end and New Year holidays.

The company has addressed the staffing issue and secured crew members for the train’s operation.

In December, Iyotetsu Group sought support from the city government due to the Botchan train incurring significant losses.
