Even residents in Jakarta, approximately 600 km away from the epicenter, reported experiencing slight tremors.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency of Indonesia (BMKG) announced today that a powerful earthquake measuring over 6.5 on the Richter scale rocked the waters off the coast of Java island on March 22.

The quake struck at a depth of 10 km, triggering tremors felt across various regions.

Reports flooding social media platforms indicated that the quake was felt significantly in the East Java region, including the provincial capital Surabaya, as well as several cities in neighboring provinces.

Even residents in Jakarta, approximately 600 km away from the epicenter, reported experiencing slight tremors.

Despite concerns, BMKG assured the public that there was no imminent risk of a tsunami.

However, details regarding any potential damage caused by the seismic activity remain undisclosed as of now.

Earlier on the same day, an earthquake had already struck, damaging a house and a community building in Tuban town, as confirmed by the agency.

No tourist have been reported to have suffered any damage.
