Delhi government has set deadlines for classified hotels in the city to implement strong environment-friendly measures for their day-to-day operations. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Environment Department of the Delhi government and about 32 hotels in the city to implement these measures based on the Green Hotel Guidelines promulgated by the department.

As per the MoU, the hotels will have to set up dedicated Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) by September 30, 2013 for recycling of waste water to ensure zero discharge. These hotels also have to install solar water heating system and set up facilities for conversion of organic solid waste into compost or bio-fuel within the prescribed deadline. There are short and long-term goals as part of the MoU.
