The new British High Commissioner to Seychelles, Ms. Caron Rohsler, presented her credentials to President James Michel at State House this morning.

The President and the High Commissioner discussed several fields of cooperation such as maritime security, education, capacity-building, environmental conservation, climate change, and the Blue Economy.

High Commissioner Rohsler congratulated the President on the leadership he has shown in the region in respect to the fight against piracy and securing the Indian Ocean. She said the international community needs to work on this as a whole and the United Kingdom has been very committed to that cause.

“We also talked about the very exciting opportunities in the Blue Economy, which I think is a really interesting new area, and it is one that the United Kingdom, again, is working closely with the government of Seychelles on. I hope that over the course of my time here we will see perhaps a shift in focus from working on security issues together, which remain very important, to greater ties on prosperity and to see more British businesses investing here and working here,” said High Commissioner Rohsler in an interview with local media.

They also spoke about the upcoming UN climate change conference in Paris in December and the position of Small Island Developing States in the negotiations.

High Commissioner Caron Rohsler is based in Victoria, Seychelles.

Also present during the meeting were the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Transport, Joel Morgan, and the President’s Diplomatic Adviser, Ambassador Callixte D’Offay; the Deputy British High Commissioner, Mr. Dave Jones, and the Press, Politics and Public Affairs Officer of the British High Commission, Mr. Matthew Harper.

Seychelles is a founding member of the International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP) .
