Premiere bike tour company Art of Bicycle Trips has launched new bike tours in Norway, Portugal, and Romania.

The company already has a presence in Europe through its tours in Albania, Croatia, and Slovenia. With these new launches, the company intends to further strengthen its foothold in the continent, which it sees as an important hub for active travel.

The company has seen strong demand for its existing tours in Asia, especially in Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, India, and Sri Lanka. At the same time, its European tours in Albania, Croatia, and Slovenia have generated a good amount of interest too.

All its bike tours are available with e-bike upgrades.

Here’s a quick lowdown on what cyclists can expect from each destination.

Portugal Bike Tours

Art of Bicycle Trips’ Portugal bike tour covers the two most popular active travel destinations on the Portuguese mainland — Alentejo and Algarve. Named the Castles and Beaches Bike Tour, this tour starts from Estremoz in northern Alentejo and ends in Pedralva in Algarve. In between, it passes through Monsaraz, Evore, Vila Nova de Mil Fontes, and Odeceixe, sticking close to the Atlantic coast for the most part.

While castles and beaches are a highlight of the tour, it also incorporates several important wine destinations such as the Fita Preta winery in Evora. Also on the itinerary are visits to Europe’s largest artificial lake, the Alqueva dam reservoir.

Other highlights along the route include olive grows and cork forests. Portugal, in fact, is the largest producer of cork in the world, and pretty much all the cork used for making wine bottle stoppers come from Portugal, and the Alentejo region in particular.

This 8-day bike tour has been classified as an easy to moderate level tour, meaning the terrain consists of mostly flat to rolling hills with a few occasional climbs. The tour is suitable for riders aged 16 and above.

Norway Bike Tours

The Company’s Norway bike tour has been named the Fjords of Norway bike tour, after Norway’s famous geographical features which are also recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

This is a 9-day bike tour which has been classified as an easy to moderate level bike tour, which means the route is mostly flat with the occasional hills.

The action on this tour unfolds on Norway’s spectacular western coast along the Norwegian Sea.

The tour begins at Kalvag and ends at Sandane after passing through Davik, Nordfjordeid, Oye, Geiranger, and Loen. Along the way, cyclists get to ride past Norway’s unforgettable landscape consisting of fjords, valleys, meadows, glaciers, and mountains. There’s also the chance to go kayaking in Lake Lovatnet and hiking up to Mount Skala.

The itinerary also includes stays at some beautiful heritage properties, including the historic Gloppen Hotel in Sandane dating back to 1866, the opulent Alexandra Hotel in Loen dating back to 1884, and charming Union Hotel in Oye dating back to 1891

Romania Bike Tours

Art of Bicycle Trips’ Romania bike tours are centered around its historic Transylvania region. Called the Enigmatic Transylvania Tour, this is a tour that explores this mythical region, famous in lore as being the home of Count Dracula. The tour actually includes an optional visit to the Bran Castle, famous as being the castle where Count Dracula lived.

The 8-day tour starts at Brasov and ends at Sibiu after passing through Talisoara, Viscri, Stejarisu, SighiÈ™oara, and Carta.

A highlight of the tour are the heritage hotels along the route. These include the 400-year old Fornius Residence in Sighisoara, the 350-year old Castle Daniel in Talisoara, and the 184 year old Levoslav House in Sibiu that was once the residence of the 19th century composer Jan Levoslav Bella.

This 8-day bike tour is classified as being of Moderate level, as there are a few days of serious uphill riding through the Carpathian mountains.
