Almaty International Airport of Kazakhstan is preparing for takeoff with a brand new terminal, set to double its passenger capacity and attract more international visitors.

Mayor Yerbolat Dossayev recently inspected the construction progress, reporting an 87% completion rate for the $200 million project managed by Turkish company TAV Airports Holding.

Scheduled to open in June 2024, the terminal will exclusively handle international flights, while the existing terminal, after some renovations, will cater to domestic travel.

This exciting development promises not only a smoother travel experience with seamless transfers between domestic and international flights, but also a significant boost to tourism.

Almaty Airport’s capacity will jump from 2.7 million to 14 million passengers annually, with foreign tourist numbers expected to reach 520,000 this year and climb to 1 million by 2030.

Mayor Dossayev emphasized the importance of maintaining high construction standards, referencing TAV’s proven track record in managing airports across the globe. He also called for the project’s timely completion, urging officials to meet the June deadline.
