LOS ANGELES, California – “Earning our third Green Globe recognition is a wonderful reward of our extra efforts made last year,” said Albert Rouwendal, General Manager at the Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Center and Director of Operations Benelux. “Our goal is to continuously improve our performance, and to try and find the best possible solutions for an eco-friendly and responsible operation. Sustainability should be on top of everybody’s mind during daily business, and it is our objective to increase awareness among our staff, guests, and stakeholders.”

For years, Green Globe Member, the Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Center in the Netherlands, has demonstrated outstanding efforts and innovation in the fields of operational efficiency and corporate responsibility. For Movenpick Hotels & Resorts, sustainability is about meeting current needs, while at the same time preserving and contributing to the future for generations to come.

A long term sustainability management system is in effect at the Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam, and the property only uses 100% sustainable energy. Monthly energy and water consumption is recorded and benchmarked. The hotel’s zero-impact policy encourages guests to support a carbon-neutral stay.

Social responsibility is a huge topic at Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam, and the hotel promotes the philosophy of volunteerism. Immersed with the community, the property works closely with a number of local programs, contributing to a positive environment. Staff members volunteer with “Laat ze maar lachen,” a Dutch foundation that organizes food, clothes, and activities for children, who live a life below poverty line. Regular donations are being made to “Vonk,” a research program to fight special types of pediatric cancer, and developing new medications to cure more patients.

The Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam actively supports the Climate Neutral Group, a social venture that strives towards a 100% climate neutral world. This non-profit organization assists businesses in making the transition to climate neutrality, and develops climate-neutral devices and products for their customers. Hotel guests can choose to donate Euro 1 per stay, helping to fund renewable energy projects in developing countries. Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam sponsors the ‘The Paradigm Project’, aiming to improve health and incomes in Kenya. By replacing traditional cooking on an open fire with clean and sustainable cook stoves, CO2 emissions are reduced and carbon credits generated.
