US citizen international travel experienced little growth in July 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – US citizen outbound totaled 6.9 million travelers for the month and 36.3 million YT.

U.S. travel to overseas markets totaled 3.1 million, up almost two percent in July and one percent for the year (17.6 million). Regional results for the month were as follows:

Europe, 1.3 million travelers, up three percent

Caribbean, 730,000 travelers, down one percent

Asia, 366,000 travelers, no growth

Central America, 279,000 travelers, up three percent

South America, 165,000 travelers, up six percent

Middle East, 139,000 travelers, up six percent

Oceania, 48,000 travelers, no growth

Africa, 36,000 travelers, down six percent

U.S. travel to other North American markets totaled 3.8 million and was down one percent compared to July 2012. Travel to Canada and Mexico for the year (18.7 million) was down one percent.

Mexico, 1.9 million travelers, down three percent; however, air travel (587,000) was up seven percent

Canada, 1.9 million travelers, up two percent; air travel (505,000) up 10 percent

U.S. travel to overseas locations accounted for 49 percent of U.S. outbound international travel.

Europe, a 19 percent share;

Caribbean, a 12 percent share;

Asia, a seven percent share;

Central America, a four percent share;

South America, a three percent share;

Middle East, a three percent share;

Oceania, a one percent share, and
Africa, a one percent share

North American markets received 51 percent of all U.S. international outbound travel.

U.S. travel to Mexico a 33 percent share; and
Canada a 19 percent share.
