Free adventure travel tours in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Luis Rivera-Marín, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC), today launched PRTC’s new fall promotion, which will allow tourists (including travel agents) to see how Puerto Rico does it better by giving them a complimentary adventure tour when they book with participating hotels before September 16, 2012 for travel before November 16, 2012. The promotion, a first for Puerto Rico, is designed to get tourists out of their hotels to experience some of the best attractions the island has to offer, from foodie tours to adrenaline-pumping thrills at ToroVerde, the highest zip line in the world.

Travel agents interested in learning more about the destination’s offerings are given an extra incentive – the opportunity to experience it first-hand. Hotels should be contacted directly to learn about special low-rate offers associated with the promotion, as well as which tours are available from that property. In addition, the destination is running a companion consumer promotion that agents can purchase for their clients.

“PRTC is eager to welcome travel agents to the island to familiarize them with our offerings. Research shows that vacations booked through travel agents are booked further in advance and for longer stays, because they involve their customers with more of what the destination has to offer outside the hotels than those scheduled independently by travelers. We want to work with agents to give them the resources they need to excel in that respect, as well as an opportunity to enjoy Puerto Rico for themselves,” explained Rivera-Marín.

Book a minimum four nights’ stay at a participating hotel and choose a free experience such as one of the following:

– Kayak in one of only six bioluminescent bays in the world (and Puerto Rico is home to three!)
– Hiking tour of El Yunque rain forest (the only tropical rainforest in the US Forest System
– Culinary tour of San Juan (think: pork, plantains, and piña coladas)
– Catamaran tour
– Old San Juan (or Caguas) city tour
– ToroVerde Adventure Park (including the world’s highest zip line: The Beast)
– Guided biking in Old San Juan
– Golf one of the island’s world-class fairways (Robert Trent Jones, Greg Norman, Fazio Brothers, and others)

Details on landing pages will offer travel agents contact names/telephone numbers/emails to book direct with participating hotels. Consumers will see direct links to participating hotels.

For consumers, the offer for a free tour will be linked to the hotel’s most competitive existing offer. Upon check-in, the customer will receive a free tour voucher that then can be redeemed with the hotel tour desk or front desk.

The offer, which needs to be booked by September 16, 2012 for travel before November 16, 2012, will be combined with select promotional offers at participating hotels. Different tours will be available at different properties and are subject to change, so travelers will need to contact a hotel in advance to confirm availability and book. Minimum stay is four nights; limit of one voucher per person and two per booking.

To publicize the promotion, PRTC is utilizing social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as advertising in trade and consumer media. Interested parties can visit and go to their appropriate landing page – consumer or travel professional – where the information will be tailored for their needs.
