Zambia’s Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources Minister Catherine Namugala has been short-listed for the Africa Investor Tourism Minister of the year award.

Tourism Ministry acting public relations officer In’utu Mushambatwa said in a statement that Ms Namugala was among six other African Tourism ministers nominated for the award.

The award will be presented at a ceremony on February 16 at Rainbow Towers Hotel and Conventional Centre in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Other ministers short-listed for the award are from Ghana, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Tanzania and Uganda.

The ceremony will coincide with the African investor tourism summit which will be held from February 15 to 17 at the same venue.

Ms Mushambatwa said the awards were designed to recognise the contributions made to sustainable tourism investments in Africa by various individuals, organisations and governments.

She said special adviser to the United Nations secretary general of the UN World Tourism Organisation had noted that the awards were Africa’s initiative to award outstanding individuals and organisations.
