Showing a new best practice for solidarity and cooperation, the Americas committee introduced a system of split terms for the Executive Council. Candidates in the Americas region decided to split the 4-year terms of being elected as an executive member.

Therefore, Argentina and Peru will split their 4-year term with Argentina serving 2 years, and Peru serving 2 years.

Similar agreements were put in place for Uruguay and Brazil, and for Jamaica and Honduras.
