LOS ANGELES, California – Green Globe recently recertified Mövenpick Hotel West Bay Doha for the fourth consecutive year.

The Mövenpick Hotel West Bay Doha is situated in the heart of the Qatari capital, an ideal location for business and leisure travelers. This modern, contemporary hotel is in close proximity to Doha landmarks including the City Centre Mall, Katara Cultural Village, The Pearl, Souq Waqif (a traditional open air marketplace) and the Museum of Islamic Art.

Ms. Ghada Sadek, General Manager at the hotel said, “We all share great pride and continued commitment to maintain our sustainability management policy and be an example to our tourism community. We are proud to be Green Globe certified for the fourth year and we will continue to be environmentally conscious by working closely with Green Globe to improve our efforts and be a driver of sustainability in the region.”

The hotel has focused on green initiatives and social projects that aim to increase environmental and community awareness.

Led by the property’s Green Team, the hotel organizes numerous green activities annually including Earth Hour, Beach Clean-Ups and Tree Planting projects. Mövenpick Hotel West Bay Doha partners up with the Qatar Tourism Authority to promote Earth Hour in Qatar during worldwide Earth Hour celebrations. Last year, the hotel was featured as part of a video project highlighting the moment when the lights were turned off. Through its partnership with the Qatar Green Building Council, the hotel also participates in No Paper Day each year. On this day staff limit printing jobs and only use paper if it is essential, guests are encouraged to do likewise. This event is promoted heavily on social media in coordination with QGBC.

Mövenpick Hotel West Bay Doha underwent a comprehensive audit by Green Globe’s preferred Middle East Partner FARNEK. The hotel is very active in instigating CSR activities. One CSR initiative involves hotel staff working with the al Shafallah Centre for the Disabled. Mövenpick Hotel West Bay Doha trains students from the Shafallah Centre in basic skills and functions in both the housekeeping and food and beverage departments. During the two-month training program, the students learn the importance of teamwork and time management whilst self-confidence is also nurtured. The hotel aims to continue its collaboration with the center, and bring in more trainees on a regular basis. Currently, there are two full time employees from the Shafallah Centre for the Disabled working at the hotel and there are hopes to increase the number to four in the future.

As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, Mövenpick Hotel West Bay Doha also offers a Green Meetings Package to those who are interested in making their meetings and events more environmentally friendly. In addition to a healthy and sustainable lunch, attendees will also be encouraged to use hard top-tables in the meeting room where no linen is used to reduce chemical use/water/energy usage, a fully electronic paper-free event and much more.

“Green Meetings are an essential step taken by the hotel not only to promote and spread awareness on green living and businesses, but also to encourage the hotel’s loyal patrons and guests to learn more about our green initiatives and take part in them as well,” concluded Ms. Sadek.
