On the island of Oahu, Kailua Beach and Lanikai Beach are beautiful white sandy beach stretches. Many tourists staying in private vacation rentals in Kailua and Lanikai or driving out for the day from Waikiki are now urged to not enter the water.

DLNR, NOAA and Honolulu county ocean officials urge swimmers, fishers, divers, kayakers, jetskiers, windsurf and other ocean users to stay out of these windward waters through Friday evening.

Two killer whales that weigh between 3,000 to 4,000 pounds each appear to be in distress, swimming in circles between Flat Island and the shore line.

There is a chance this could attract predators such as sharks. The whales may beach themselves or go back out to open ocean.
