Vietnam‘s National Authority of Tourism has outlined ambitious goals for the year 2024, aiming to match the pre-pandemic levels of tourism. Having achieved 12.6 million foreign arrivals in 2023, marking a significant recovery compared to 2022, the country is determined to further bolster its tourism sector.
The top contributors to Vietnam’s tourism numbers were South Korea, mainland China, and Taiwan. Despite the promising rebound, challenges such as inflation, economic downturns, and unforeseen geopolitical events remain concerns for the industry, according to the authority.
However, these targets, though ambitious for Vietnam, appear modest in comparison to other Southeast Asian nations. Thailand, for instance, has set a target of 35 million foreign arrivals this year, building on its 2023 achievement of 28 million tourists.
Vietnam’s aspirations in the tourism sector reflect both optimism and caution in navigating the complex landscape of global events while striving to regain pre-pandemic levels of economic activity.
