Today, in the spirit of partnership and shared values, the Slovenian Tourist Board signed a Letter of Intent with the Portuguese National Tourism Organization, Turismo de Portugal I.P.

This marked the beginning of a deeper and stronger collaboration between the two destinations, who are united in their commitment to sustainability, innovation, and quality in tourism.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Nataša Pirc Musar, President of the Republic of Slovenia, and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Portuguese Republic.

Slovenia and Portugal both place sustainability at the very heart of their tourism strategies. Working together, tourism flows between the two countries will be strengthened and will also create more meaningful, responsible, and future-oriented travel experiences.

Beyond that there is great potential to collaborate in key areas such as digital transformation, data analytics, AI, and education — building a more innovative and resilient tourism sector for tomorrow.

Slovenia has adopted the Strategy for Sustainable Growth of Slovenian Tourism, which will contribute to the development of competitive advantages and the promotion of systemic solutions including the effective linking of national, local, regional, and entrepreneurial interests in the development of tourism, as well as the promotion of global, national, and local tourism products. Through the rich and strategically managed choice of tourism products, the country sees a vital opportunity for the development of the Slovenian economy that will encourage growth with funding adapted for tourism.

Tourism in Portugal is the main driving force of the country’s economy. To prepare for the future of tourism, the country plans to enter into long-term commitments and work as a team to achieve goals with a focus including sustainability. This will be achieved by adding value to travel and tourism through the preservation of the nation’s historical and cultural assets along with protection of natural and rural heritage while also regenerating urban areas and the development of tourism offerings.
