A German man has been charged with trying to smuggle cocaine into Australia impregnated in clothes in his luggage.
Customs officers stopped the 29-year-old for a bag search when he arrived at Brisbane International Airport following a flight from Auckland on Monday.
The officers suspected clothes in the man’s luggage may have been impregnated with drugs.
The clothing, which included numerous pairs of jeans and T-shirts, was stiff to the touch and preliminary testing indicated the presence of cocaine.
Further testing of the clothing is being conducted.
In a statement, Australian Federal Police officers said they had arrested and charged the man with attempted drug importation.
If convicted he faces up to 25 years in jail.
The man will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
