Following a meeting with Mr Peter Mihok, Chairperson of the International Chambers of Commerce World Chambers Federation and Mr Anthony Parkes, Director of the ICC in Doha – on Monday 22nd April 2013, founding President James R. Mancham said that it is timely for the Seychelles Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI), to become actively associated with the International Chamber of Commerce and other associated Chambers.

Mr Mancham is in Doha, Qatar, participating in the 8th World Chambers Congress which is held every two years in a different region of the world and provide an international forum for Chamber leaders to share best practise experiences, exchange insights, develop networks, and address the latest business issues affecting the world.

With its headquarters based in Paris, the ICC is the largest, most representative business organization in the world. Its global network comprises over 6 million companies, Chambers of Commerce and business associations in more than 130 countries.

Mr Mancham availed of the opportunity of his meeting with Mr Mihok to deliver a message from the newly-elected President of the Seychelles Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI), Mr Marko Francis concerning SCCI’s desire to become integrated in regional and international forums of Chambers.

“Building on Qatar’s renowned reputation of world class events including WTO (World Trade Organization), the World Petroleum conference, UNTACD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development), and soon to proudly host the 2022 World Cup – we have now put together one of the largest World Chambers Congress to date – one that it is inter-active and stimulating, as it is beneficial and rewarding for all,” Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim Mohamed Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce, said in his welcoming address to the 1800 delegates in attendance.

“Addressing the press after his meeting with the leaders of the ICC, the leaders of the ICC World Federation of Chambers, Mr Mancham said that the interest of SCCI was welcomed and will be positively considered at the next Board meeting of the Federation which is due to take place in Hamburg later this year.

“As peace and stability are essential for economic growth, business leaders all over the world have an important role to play alongside political leaders to ensure that decisions taken and policies adopted are enlightened ones in the national interest. Where stability is concerned, we are all in one and the same boat,” the Seychelles founding President concluded.
