From Sunday 5 January 2014 British airline Eastern Airways is launching its new service between Lorient Bretagne Sud and Lyon-Saint-Exupéry airports after being selected by CCI of Morbihan to operate the route.

Eastern Airways is providing two flights each weekday, plus a Sunday service on the cross-country link from Lorient to Lyon. The UK’s second largest regional airline has been operating domestic flights in France since September 2010 from its Dijon base with services to both Bordeaux and Toulouse.

“This latest domestic route launch further demonstrates our commitment to serving the regions of France as we enhance our French network,” says Kay Ryan, Eastern Airways’ Commercial Director.

“As part of our expansion with a new base in Lorient, we are very keen to develop a strong relationship with CCI Morbihan and the regional tourism bodies, which is very important as we provide a continuation of this essential Lyon air link.”

Weekday services depart from Lorient at 0620 and 1645, arriving in Lyon at 0810 and 1835. Flights leave Lyon on weekdays at 0840 and 1905, landing in Lorient at 1030 and 2055. Sunday flights depart Lorient at 1645, arriving in Lyon at 1835, with return flights leaving at 1905, arriving in Lorient at 2055.

From 31 March 2014 onwards, when the summer season starts, there will be a timing change to the weekday afternoon/evening flights between Lorient and Lyon. Flights will depart Lorient at 1730, arriving in Lyon at 1920. Services from Lyon will leave at 1950, landing in Lorient at 2140.

Fares start at 126 euros one way including all taxes and charges.

Lorient is located in the heart of southern Brittany in the north west of France and is the leading agriculture and fishing region for France. The region and Lorient has strong industrial links with Lyon in the electronics, telecoms, automobile and food processing sectors.

Lorient is also the country’s main naval base for construction and repairs and is “the town of five ports” with its military port, yachting marina, fishing port, industrial port and passenger port.

Lyon is the capital of the Rhone–Alps region in east-central France, the country’s second largest city and renowned for its gastronomy.

A comprehensive network of domestic flights spanning the length and breadth of the UK is offered by Eastern Airways, as well as the services it provides from airports in Norway and France using a fleet of 30 aircraft consisting of regional jets and turbo prop aircraft.

Founded in 1997, Eastern Airways initially developed its UK network of scheduled services around the oil and gas offshore industry in the North Sea, with flights from the east coast of England to Aberdeen. The airline is the UK’s second largest regional carrier operating more flights from Aberdeen than any other carrier. It also flies from UK airports including Birmingham, East Midlands, Leeds Bradford, Newcastle and Southampton.
