Hartmut Mehdorn has been appointed as a new non-executive director to the board of Air Berlin PLC & Co. Luftverkehrs KG. He will be taking over the position vacated by Claus Wülfers who left at the end of the recent annual general meeting on June 10, 2009. Wülfers supported the company since it went public in May 2006 with advice and the benefit of his many years of airline experience.

Mehdorn (66 years old) was CEO of Deutsche Bahn AG from December 1999 until April 30 of this year. He has a degree in mechanical engineering – and is the father of two sons and a daughter. From 1989 to 1992, Mehdorn was CEO of Deutsche Airbus GmbH in Hamburg. Then from August 1992 to 1995, he was a member of the board of Deutsche Aerospace AG (DASA) in Munich. Mehdorn gained further industrial experience in a position of responsibility as CEO of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG and as a board member of RWE.
