Greece addresses EU Parliament on UN-Tourism

Harry

Harry Theoharis is one of the five candidates competing for the post of UN Tourism Secretary-General in the upcoming elections at the UN Tourism Executive Council meeting against Zurab Pololikashvil, the current UN-Tourism chief, who has been manipulating the system to run for a third term. This is considered by many in the UN system as unethical.

Harry Theoharis, the candidate from EU member country Greece, had an opportunity to speak to the European Parliament.

Harry Theoharis told delegates at the EU Parliament in Brussels:

It is a distinct honor to address the European Parliament at the invitation of the President of the Transport and Tourism Committee, my esteemed friend Eliza Vozemberg, as the sole EU candidate for the position of Secretary-General of UN Tourism.

In my remarks, I underscored the urgent need to address the fragmentation within the global tourism community. Initiatives such as the European Tourism Data Space represent crucial tools in this effort, providing a framework for more coordinated and informed decision-making. Strengthening these initiatives is essential to fostering a more unified and resilient global tourism sect

I also emphasized the urgent need for stronger collaboration between the European Commission, the European Parliament, and other European institutions with UN Tourism to advance shared goals in the tourism sector. Despite tourism’s strategic importance to Europe’s economy and global standing, meaningful cooperation in this area has been lacking in recent years.

I pledged my full commitment to strengthening this cooperation by leveraging UN Tourism’s deep expertise and the advanced tools already available within the European institutions.
