Starting from January 12th, streets surrounding Kongens Nytorv will be inaccessible to traffic, as announced by Copenhagen Municipality.

Central Copenhagen Square Kongens Nytorv, a central traffic hub in Copenhagen, will undergo closures to vehicles leading up to the event of Queen Margrethe’s abdication ceremony.

The closure, beginning days ahead of the ceremony, aims to facilitate a joint broadcast by national TV stations DR and TV2, who will unite to honor the outgoing queen.

Starting from January 12th, streets surrounding Kongens Nytorv will be inaccessible to traffic, as announced by Copenhagen Municipality.

The square itself will see partial closures, commencing on Tuesday, limiting access to the northbound lanes near significant landmarks.

Despite these closures, cyclists and pedestrians will retain access to the affected areas. Acknowledging the anticipated high turnout for the television broadcast, Copenhagen Municipality highlighted inevitable traffic disruptions primarily affecting cars, according to Mikkel Halbye Mindegaard, the head of the department.

Post-broadcast, most road closures will be lifted immediately, with only the stage in front of the Royal Danish Theatre remaining until Saturday. After this, normal traffic flow will resume.
