SINGAPORE – Shanghai Hengfu Investment & Development Co, Ltd has appointed Capella Hotel Group Asia as the manager of Capella Shanghai, Jian Ye Li, which is scheduled to open in March 2017.

Located within Hengfu historical and cultural preservation zone of the Xuhui District, Capella Shanghai, Jian Ye Li will be the city’s only all-villa urban resort in the last remaining cluster of historical “shikumen” (stone warehouse gate) estate, which was the landmark of 1930s Shanghai. Capella Residences Shanghai, located within the same estate, will open in early 2017.

Originally built in the 1930s by French real estate company Fonciere et Immobiliere de Chine, the Jian Ye Li estate is comprised of the ultra-luxury Capella Shanghai, Capella Residences and The Gallery, a retail destination for lifestyle brands. Sensitively restored for the affluent clientele, these “shikumen” buildings are a marriage of traditional Shanghainese and Western architectural styles which first appeared in the 1860s. Due to Shanghai’s rapid development, original “shikumen” houses are a rarity against the glistening skyscrapers and modern architecture. The Jian Ye Li estate will be a showcase of Shanghai’s residential heritage featuring Chinese courtyard houses with Parisian flair.

Mr. Zhu Jingsong, General Manager of Shanghai Hengfu Investment & Development Co., Ltd. said, “For a decade, Capella Hotel Group Asia has been devoted to the development of the world’s hospitality landmarks and preservation of historic architecture with cultural value. This cooperation between Xufang Group and Capella Hotel Group Asia is an alliance between like-minded partners. Both parties shall play to each other’s strengths and build upon the profound historical and cultural heritage of Jian Ye Li’s unique architectural structures. It is our common goal to transform Jian Ye Li into a vibrant and charming landmark that symbolizes the protective utilization of Shanghai’s beautiful historical architecture.”

“Capella Hotel Group is deeply honored to be appointed as the custodian of Shanghai’s last remaining “shikumen” estate and an important part of Shanghai’s cultural heritage. The juxtaposition of a contemporary gateway city with the alluring heritage of a past era makes Capella Shanghai truly unique. We will instill our Capella service philosophy and leverage on our expertise in the ultra-luxury segment to create a new hospitality icon for Shanghai,” said Mr. Horst Schulze, Chairman and CEO of Capella Hotel Group.
