Dhaka – Bangladesh will hold a number of exhibitions in selective South and Southeast Asian countries to attract foreign tourists to the panoramic view of lush green of the Himalayan delta, a minister said Thursday.

‘The government will do everything necessary to ensure the tourists’ stay in Bangladesh is comfortable,’ Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Ghulam Muhammad Quader said, opening a tourism fair organised by Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka.

The minister said that the government would soon organise country- branding exhibitions styled ‘Destination Bangladesh Fair’ in a number of countries, including Thailand, Nepal and Indonesia.

He said the government would revise its visa regime, if needed, beyond the on-arrival visas it currently gives to citizens of 45 countries.

Bangladesh has been working on a National Tourism Policy to attract foreigners to its eco-tourism and spiritual tourism, involving an Asian Development Bank-funded project.

The country’s tourist attractions include the world’s biggest unbroken 125-kilometre sandy sea beach in the Bay of Bengal in south- eastern Cox’s Bazar district, the largest mangrove Sundarbans forest – a World Heritage Site – and the Kuakata sea beach.

Poor infrastructure and security have marred tourism over the past years.
