LOS ANGELES, California – Nestled in the clifftops on the Northwest coast of Mallorca in Spain, Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel and Spa has once again met the strict requirements set by Green Globe. It is the only hotel on the island to have received this internationally recognized certification for sustainable tourism.

Green Globe recently certified Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel and Spa for the second consecutive year.

Mr. Jordi Tarrida, General Manager at Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel & Spa said, “I feel honored and proud to be awarded with the Green Globe re-certification for all of my team and their numerous efforts embracing sustainable practices and concern for our environment. A special mention goes to our Green Champion, Alfonso Rodriguez, who coordinated all the many efforts at our hotel to once again qualify for and pass the complex assessment process.”

The renewed Green Globe certification is testament to the hotel’s ongoing commitment to being environmentally friendly and socially sustainable in order to preserve the beauty of its natural surroundings and support the local community for many years to come.

Over the last year, the hotel has taken further steps to integrate sustainable methods into its everyday operations. Measures include the installation of solar, thermal and photovoltaic panels, Tesla electronic car charging points, the creation of green rooftops that grow in a 40cm layer of soil covering the roof and the introduction of a grey water recycling system.

Other environmental initiatives include collaborations with the Black Vulture Conservation Foundation, which protects the endangered Black Vulture, a native bird of Mallorca and also the Reforestation and Environmental Restoration Plant that aims to restore protected areas. Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel and Spa has signed an agreement with ALLCOT to offset carbon emissions from employee trips through investment in the Brazilian Rosewood Amazon Conservation project. The project’s goal is to protect the fragile ecosystem of the Amazon rainforest by eliminating an equivalent volume of emissions from the atmosphere.

Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel & Spa continues to increase its involvement with the local community. It recently announced a new partnership with local olive oil producer ‘Cooperativa de Sóller’ to create a unique olive oil to be sold exclusively at the hotel. In addition, as part of the ‘Unique Experiences’ program that will be launched, guests will be able to go behind the scenes to discover more about how the olive oil is produced. Other social actions that support local charities include the collection of plastic bottle tops and donations of unwanted clothes. Furthermore, the hotel participates in Restaurants Against Hunger, an initiative that contributes to feeding those at risk of hunger.
