With increasing frequency, Frankfurt Airport is assuming the role of trendsetter among Europe’s aviation hubs. In a project dubbed “FRA Entertainment,” Fraport is now developing a free entertainment program that will let passengers enjoy the latest movies, TV series, and popular music on their mobile devices while waiting for their flights to depart. All they need is the free Wi-Fi service at FRA. Then they are free to browse an extensive library of streaming products and choose their favorites. The technology works on tablets and smartphones running on iOS or Android.

The program is currently being tested at various departure gates. Promoters are distributing leaflets to call passengers’ attention to the offering. They are also asking users about their experiences with the service, how well they like it, and any wishes they may have for improving or extending it. The pilot phase will run until the end of May. Based on the feedback received, the airport will then decide whether or not to continue offering streamed entertainment at the gates.

The streamed entertainment program is yet another component of the “Great to have you here!” program with which the airport’s operator, Fraport, is continuously working to improve the customer experience at Germany’s largest aviation hub. Other examples are version 3.0 of the Frankfurt Airport App and free 24-hour Wi-Fi for everyone.
