Need a visa to visit the United States? You may be in for a bad surprise

Tourists and business travelers preparing for a visit to the United States of America may be in for a surprise. Long delays in visa processing time may eliminate short term plans for many. U.S. citizens wanting to renew a U.S. passport outside the United States may also be in for a surprise.

Did the secret and highly technical and complicated American Visa and Passport system get hacked?

There has been a worldwide delay in issuing US passports and visas due to technical problems for some time. It is not specific to any particular country.

“The department of state’s bureau of consular affairs is currently experiencing technical problems with our overseas passport and visa systems,” – this was the statement by the U.S. Embassy in Delhi, India today.

Apologising for the inconvenience caused, the embassy said: “This issue is not specific to any particular country, citizenship document, or visa category.”

Embassies told Americans:
Passport applications accepted overseas on or after May 26, 2015 are affected by this delay. If you applied for a U.S. passport overseas during this time frame and have travel plans within the next 10 business days, please consider requesting an emergency passport at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate at which you originally applied.
