Miami Air International pilots, represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) Local 747, overwhelming ratified the tentative Collective Bargaining Agreement with Miami Air International by 97 percent today.
Miami Air pilots had been in negotiations with the company since June 2006 as the former Miami Air Pilots Association (MAPA). They merged with IBT Local 747 in August 2007 after negotiations had stagnated and a previous attempt to ratify a tentative agreement had failed.
The ratified CBA includes an immediate average wage increase of 16 percent, with an overall average wage increase of 23 percent for the duration of the contract. In addition to general protections and improvements in quality of life, the pilots also receive an average signing bonus of $6,000 and an additional day off per bid period.
“The pilots of Miami Air International now have the security and recognition they have fought to obtain throughout these uncertain years. Every pilot at Miami Air has not only improved their quality of life, but has raised the industry standard for flight deck crewmembers as a whole. Their foresight and perseverance should not go unapplauded,” said Local 747 president E.E. Sowell.
Miami Air International, a charter airline and a subsidiary of TSI Holdings, employs approximately 100 pilots, flying Boeing 737s throughout the world.
International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 747 represents approximately 5,000 flight deck crewmembers, flying for 14 different airlines worldwide.
