6.5 Earthquake in Western Brazil

Powerful 6.9M Earthquake rocks Ecuador and Peru

The Amazonas are a remote part of Western Brazil along the Peruvian border to the west, and Colombia to the North.
A strong earthquake just rocked the region.

A 6.5-strong earthquake was measured at 18.31 (6.31 pm) in Western Brazil close to Ipxuna and Cruzeiro do Sul, 123 km NW of Tarauaca, Brazil.

Tarauacá is a municipality located northwest of the Brazilian state of Acre. Tarauacá has a population of 43,151 people and has an area of 20,171 square kilometers (7,788 sq mi).

Ipixuna is a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Amazonas. Its population was 30,436 (2020) and its area is 13,566 km².

Cruzeiro do Sul is a municipality located on the Juruá river west of the Brazilian state of Acre. It is the second-largest city in Acre, and not too far from the border to Peru.

The earthquake center is in a remote part of the Amazonas and not expected to have devastating effects.

The depth of the quake is 592 km.

A 2018 7.1 earthquake in the same region did not cause much damages.
