President James Michel received a message of support and sympathy from the President of the United Arab Emirates and the Emir of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, following the bus accident on the island of Praslin on Friday.
On Saturday evening, two children in the intensive care unit of Victoria hospital were identified for urgent medical treatment and were expecting to be flown out to a specialized medical center in the region on the weekend.
Following a telephone call from Sheikh Khalifa to President Michel, the President of the UAE has offered assistance to transport the children to a hospital in Abu Dhabi for further treatment and care.
The Emirate of Abu Dhabi has sent an air ambulance and doctor to Seychelles, which arrived at Seychelles International Airport at 2:15 pm on Sunday afternoon.
The plane left an hour later and will be transporting the children to Abu Dhabi where they will be taken to the Sheikh Khalifa Medical Centre, together with their mothers and a nurse from Victoria hospital.
President James Michel has thanked the UAE for its immediate offer of assistance.
“We are deeply grateful to the President and the people of the United Arab Emirates for their concern for the children injured in the bus accident. This gesture of support and readiness to aid in a moment of medical urgency are greatly appreciated,” said President Michel.
