Toro Verde CEO Jorge Jorge, alongside Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) Executive Director Ingrid I. Rivera Rocafort, announced the opening of Toro Verde’s newest attraction, “El Monstruo,” alongside the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) Executive Director Ingrid I. Rivera Rocafort. The attraction was certified by the Guinness World Records™ as the world’s longest zip line at 7,234 feet – and approximately 1,200 feet in height.
“The development of El Monstruo had an investment of approximately $1 million and created 12 direct and 20 indirect jobs, resulting in a positive economic impact to the country, specifically in the mountainous region,” said Rivera Rocafort. “In addition, El Monstruo, gives Puerto Rico a new and powerful appeal to adventure and nature tourists.”
“Puerto Rico is continuing to take strides towards new tourist markets including gastronomy, weddings, and adventure tourism. These steps continue to strengthen the tourism sector, making it a powerful economic engine,” said the Secretary of the Department of Economic Development and Trade, Alberto Bacó Bagué.
“I am very excited to have accomplished another one of my dreams in Puerto Rico. I am proud and believe in the potential of the island. I urge everyone to continue to work together hand-in-hand to ensure that Puerto Rico continues to shine before the world,” said Jorge.
“El Monstruo was developed by three visionary entrepreneurs who realized there was an opportunity to grow eco-tourism and zip lining in Puerto Rico. The Economic Development Bank (BDE) assessed and identified the strengths, and determined that they had the necessary elements to complete these project. Thanks to the funding of the BDE, Puerto Rico and Toro Verde are now in the book of Guinness World Records™ for having the highest and longest zip line in the world,” said Joey Cancel Planas, President of the Economic Development Bank for Puerto Rico.
“There are difficult jobs, and those that defy dreams, this is one of those. It is not the first time Orocovis, Puerto Rico, has given me the opportunity to challenge my dreams,” said the architect of El Monstruo, José Manuel Pizarro.
As part of the inauguration of El Monstruo, entertainer and comedian Raymond Arrieta was chosen as the first participant to ride the longest zip line in the world. Additionally, Toro Verde has donated a grant to the Cancer Hospital of Puerto Rico and as part of its social commitment, Toro Verde partnered with the Ricky Martin Foundation in its fight against human trafficking with a monetary contribution for every person who rides El Monstruo.
