AUSTIN, TX – In recognition of Texas’ dynamic travel and tourism industry and its important contributions to the state economy, Governor Greg Abbott has designated May 2-10 as Texas Travel and Tourism Week, in conjunction with National Travel and Tourism Week.

Texas is a premier destination for domestic and international travelers, and the travel and tourism industry is one of the state’s largest. Travel spending in Texas totaled an estimated $70.5 billion in 2014, the fifth consecutive year of growth and the highest level recorded to date. This directly supported 630,000 jobs across many industries, including leisure and hospitality, transportation, retail, trade services, finance, real estate, construction, insurance, and others.

“The Texas tourism and travel industry is among our largest and most important,” said Governor Abbott. “We celebrate Texas Travel and Tourism Week each year not only to point out the significant economic impact of this vital industry, but also to highlight our state’s diverse traditions and attractions. I encourage Texans far and wide to join in celebrating the importance of travel and tourism to our great state’s growth and prosperity and experience all the vast and vibrant opportunities the Lone Star State has to offer.”

The Office of the Governor’s Economic Development and Tourism Division is encouraging Texans to capture and share their favorite Lone Star State travel memories using the hashtag #TexasToDo. Users who include #TexasToDo may have photos and videos uploaded to Texas Tourism’s online gallery on TravelTex.com/TexasToDo, which serves as a continuously updated Texas To Do List for visitors and locals traveling throughout the state.
