Speaking at the presentation at ITB Berlin 2015 of the new survey entitled “The 2014 ocean cruise market in Germany,” Norbert Fiebig, president of the German Travel Association (DRV), said “the ocean cruise market in Germany continues to be one of the fastest-growing tourism sectors.“

The survey was compiled in cooperation with the German affiliate Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). Michael Ungerer, chairman of the CLIA, summarised the latest figures thus: “Over the last ten years passenger numbers have increased threefold.” 1.77 million customers and a total of 15.63 million overnights represent a new passenger record for cruise tour operators. In the years to come further tourism products will be added and new ships built, resulting in market growth of 43 per cent. “Cruises combine lifestyle with diversity and comfort and are unbeatable value for money“, was how Ungerer explained the current market boom. “It makes this type of travel very attractive for people of all ages and is why it will continue to grow.”
