LOS ANGELES, California – Jumeirah Creekside Hotel is a luxurious five-star property located in the heart of Dubai overlooking the historical Dubai Creek. The hotel combines sophisticated, contemporary design and architectural features with comprehensive sustainable management strategies.

Jumeirah Creekside Hotel is the first hotel in the Middle East and first hotel in the Jumeirah Group to have achieved a compliance score of 83% against Green Globe’s updated V1.7 certification standard.

Charles E. M. Clark, General Manager of Jumeirah Creekside Hotel said, “We are very proud to have received Green Globe Certification which recognizes our commitment and dedication towards social and environmental sustainability. At Jumeirah Creekside Hotel we constantly challenge our teams to continuously focus on ethical and ecologically friendly practices. We will continue reducing our impact on the environment and contributing in making the world a more sustainable place.”

Substantial energy saving measures have been implemented throughout the hotel such as solar panels which are used exclusively for heating hot water. In 2014 electricity usage was reduced by 4.3%. Currently, LED bulbs are being installed which are 80% more efficient than existing fittings.

The hotel acts in accordance with UAE water conservation regulations and operates a grey water facility that supplies water for irrigating the grounds and landscapes. In 2014 water usage decreased by 11.3%.

Sandrine Le Biavant, Director Consultancy at FARNEK, Green Globe’s preferred Middle East partner stated, “Since the start of the Green Globe program, the hotel’s recycling rate average increase for 2014 is at 270% compared with 2013 figures reaching peaks of more than 415% in the 3 months following certification. There was a similar impact on segregation of cardboard, paper, plastic and glass, while general waste has been reduced by 4% and the total waste disposal for each guest was significantly reduced by 16%”. Aside from the environmental aspects, the hotel is clearly leading the way in promoting arts and culture as part of its core identity and responsibility. The Jumeirah Creekside Hotel Art Collection has been specially commissioned to firmly connect the hotel to the region’s vibrant art and cultural heritage. With a unique perspective on Middle Eastern Contemporary Art, the collection is playfully exhibited throughout the hotel and its grounds. Guests can discover 482 works by over 51 contemporary artists throughout the property and for a more in-depth appreciation they can join the hotel’s interpretive Art Tour.

Jumeirah Creekside Hotel management and staff also contribute to assisting local groups in line with the hotel’s corporate and social responsibilities. The hotel supports Manzil, a non-profit education center for children and young adults with special needs, by hosting a number of projects based around inclusion and vocational training for the students. The hotel has sponsored many Manzil activities since March 2013, including an art event with Irish musician Sir Bob Geldof, in which the hotel produced the book ‘You Are U’, co-written by two students. Educational and sports sessions including tennis and photography have also been organized for Manzil students.

Guests can also take part in greater cultural experiences that introduce them to life in the United Arab Emirates. Concierge can arrange visits to the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding or trips exploring the Arabian Desert to observe local flora and fauna.
