La Reunion Island marks Festival Kreol 2014

There is a common saying that said charity begins at home. Although the slogan may speak for itself, Seychelles has done considerable progress in this manner.

There is a common saying that said charity begins at home. Although the slogan may speak for itself, Seychelles has done considerable progress in this manner. For this edition of Festival Kreol 2014, the Ministry of Tourism and Culture wanted to touch the hearts of the Seychellois children with musical books, comprising of traditional instrument sounds such as Ravanne and Maravanne. The book “Moutya” as it is called uses the same concept as nursery-rhymes, to introduce children with sounds of musical instruments as well as traditional Seychelles Creole songs. The stock of ‘’Moutya’’ books is a donation of La Reunion Island to Seychelles.

It was Mrs Marie Andre La Croix, Vice President of Regional Council of La Reunion who was heading the island’s delegation to the 2014 Festival Kreol who presented the collection of books to Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture. In the presence of regional press covering Festival Kreol, Minister St Ange thanked La Reunion Island for this gesture. He explained this donation further strengthen relationship between Seychelles and Reunion

‘This book will help the children of Seychelles at an early stage, to familiarise themselves with our island’s traditional music and our musical instruments. When we were in La Reunion when President James Michel made his official visit we made the call for La Reunion to assist us with this book. Today we are happy to receive the product’’

Marie Andre La Croix, the Vice President of Regional Council of La Reunion said Reunion Island is proud to be associated with the Seychelles cause.

‘We are happy to share our strengths with other Indian Ocean Islands. Our role is to unify as a region and share our knowledge.’ the Vice President said
