Following an outbreak of severe weather last weekend that brought hundreds of reports of severe weather, including dozens of tornadoes, a new outbreak of severe weather looms on Friday and is forecast to continue into the weekend.

People spending time outdoors or traveling across portions of Interstate 20, I-40, I-70 and I-80 in Texas to Nebraska should be on the lookout for rapidly changing weather conditions.

According to AccuWeather Storm Warning Meteorologist Eddie Walker, “Severe storms will develop across portions of the northern High Plains Friday afternoon, pushing east into Friday night.”

Farther south, from Kansas to northwestern Texas, the storms will tend to be more spotty in nature on Friday evening. The storms will tend to erupt in this zone along a boundary separating moist air to the east and dry air to the west.

“Storms [Friday afternoon and evening] will be capable of high wind gusts to 70 mph, large hail over golf ball size, localized flash flooding and isolated tornadoes,” Walker said.

Flash flooding is also possible on Friday with the greatest risk in parts of Texas and Oklahoma.

As the risk of severe weather and tornadoes continues this weekend, remember to seek shelter indoors at the first sign of an approaching storm.
