Since its inception five years ago, the Red Rocks Cultural Centre has continued to empower the local community in northern Rwanda through various projects. Many of the youth have been trained at the centre to be waiters, waitresses and tour guides.

Through the Red Rocks Self Help Scheme, the centre continues to train the youth in these key areas of the hospitality industry. The center’s mission is to empower the youth with enough skills so that they are able to cater for themselves and their families.

The youth have the potential to work for themselves. However, what most the youth in rural areas lack is the opportunity to be trained, and subsequently acquire the skills they need to be self-sufficient.

The Red Rocks Self Help Scheme’s mission is to train these youths and equip them with the skills they need to join the job market.

After exploring the current conditions the youth face in both agricultural and non-farm labor markets, Red Rocks Self Help Scheme came up with different initiatives to help them have a greater probability to be self-sufficient.

Among the projects run at the centre is teaching rural women and the youth the English language, which is done with the help of volunteers.

Learning this language has helped, and will continue to help, the women and youth to be able to effectively communicate in English.

Most of the women and youth who learn at the centre did not have the opportunity to go to school. However, they have exhibited their desire and passion to learn. You too can be part of this noble project by involving yourself in order to enable these rural youth and women to learn the language which will make them have the necessary skill to communicate and do their businesses.
