As a prestigious recognition of outstanding contributions to responsible and sustainable practices, these awards launched in 2022 aim to honor entities whose remarkable achievements have made significant impacts.
Skal invites companies from the public and private sectors, educational institutions, NGOs, and government agencies related to tourism worldwide who have demonstrated exceptional prowess and dedication to advancing the boundaries of sustainability in their operation.
This year, Skal International is pleased to announce continued collaboration with the esteemed UN Tourism. During their General Assembly and 44th Affiliate Members Plenary Session held on October 16, 2023, in Samarkand (Uzbekistan), Skal International’s submission for the joint promotion of the Skal Sustainable Tourism Awards Project was accepted for the Affiliate Members Department Program of Work 2024-2025, under the category “Affiliate Members’ projects and initiatives to be implemented with UNWTO/AMD support.”
With this initiative, UN Tourism will support the STA program and provide Skal International with their global platforms to promote the STA program and its winners as they represent excellent “best practices” that can serve as great examples for other institutions, companies, and countries to help in their learning and practice for a more sustainable future.
Skal International is also delighted to keep its partnership with Biosphere Tourism and the Responsible Tourism Institute since 2018, who will also award each winner with the “Skal/Biosphere Sustainable Special Award” consisting of a one-year free subscription to the Biosphere Sustainable platform, where the winner will be able to create their own personalized Sustainability Plan for continuous improvement and recognition of the efforts of their companies or organizations.
Sustainable Travel International joins Skal International in the close cooperation in these awards program. It is a pleasure to count on this prestigious entity to make the objective of these awards a reality and to bring them closer to the international tourism community.
Entries will be evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges comprised of industry leaders and experts, ensuring a rigorous and fair assessment process. Their identities will be revealed officially during the Awards ceremony to be held in Izmir, Türkiye, on October 17, 2024.
